スリランカの元研修生、シスター・クリスティンを誇りに思う

今年の4月21日のイースターにスリランカの8か所で同時爆発事件が発生し、258人が死亡、500人が負傷したニュースはまだ記憶に新しいことと思います。ニゴンボの聖セバスチャン教会もその一つでした。ニゴンボは昨年、そして今年のスリランカスタディツアーでもホームステイした地域であり、受け入れ団体のＮＡＦＳＯの活動地でもあります。そして、この地で長年、社会活動をしてきたＡＨＩの元研修生(１９９１年）でカトリック教会のシスターでもあるクリスティンがアルジャジーラの特集記事（8月11日）になったことを知らせてくれました。

それは彼女が同時爆破事件以来、スリランカ社会が分断される中、ニゴンボという地域で、政府から顧みられない事件の犠牲者の家族によりそい、迫害を受けてアフガニスタンやパキスタンから難民となってやってきて、スリランカ社会からも敵対視され報復の対象になってる人々との和解を進めるため、宗教や民族を超えた地域グループを組織したのでした。これに対し、カトリックの信者やムスリムの商店主たちの中には、シスターのこの行動を快く思っていない人たちもいるということです。
69歳のシスター・クリスティンですが、本当の平和、和解の働きを進める姿に私たちもまた続きたいと思わされました。（ＴＮ）
